What is the fault indicating exactly?
If you bypassed a factory brake controller on your 2016 Ford F-150 then that error will keep happening unless you manually run a wire such as # 10-1-1, sold by the foot, from the brake controller blue wire to the back of the 7-Way to the pin in the 7 o'clock position.
If you didn't bypass the factory controller then there is likely a short somewhere. The most likely culprit is the 7-Way trailer connector. Any corrosion can cause a short from one pin to the other. Make sure that the wiring is in good shape, fix as needed, and make sure the vehicle and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside, where the wires attach, and outside on the pins.
