Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2008 Ford Edge with Vista Roof

Question:

I am looking for a system that will allow me to carry two, 10’ 40 lb kayaks on my roof. I have a 2008 Ford Edge with Vista Roof. Per your site I have found that the Thule Aeroblade Load Bar’s with foot pack and fit kit are compatible with my vehicle with the vista roof. My next question is can I use foam block carriers, such as the SportRack Foam Block Roof Kayak Carrier #SR5527 on top of the Aeroblade Load Bars to carry the kayaks? Or do I have to buy a J style kayak carrier? I would like to use the foam block style carrier in the interest of cost/weight if possible, but wasn’t sure if those would be a good idea with the Thule roof rack. Thank you!

First thing you'll want to do is check the owners manual of your 2008 Ford Edge with a Vista roof for the roof weight capacity as sometimes the glass roofs will have pretty low weight capacities. The Thule Aeroblade roof rack part numbers # TH711420, # TH480R, and # THKIT1530 is a confirmed fit though and would do an excellent job carrying a couple kayaks.

The foam Rightline Gear carriers part # RL100K10 would work really well too as it was specifically designed to fit aero shaped crossbars like what you have.
