Cleaning out Weld Nuts on 2014 Chrysler Town and Country for Installing Trailer Hitch
Question:
the M12 bolts on the driver side will only go in about 2/3 of the way. I was going to use a tap to clean the weldnuts. What size tap do I need? Will this fix the issue if I cross threaded the weldnuts?

The issue you are experiencing with threading the bolts into the existing holes on your Chrysler's frame is actually not too uncommon. What we recommend doing to clean the weld nuts is to simply use some spray lubricant and a good wire brush like # 814113. You will just want to spray the lubricant (something like WD-40 or Blaster Lubricant) inside the weld nut and then let it sit for a few minutes. Then you can scrub the bolt hole with the wire brush, loosening up any corrosion or grime that is built up. You may need to repeat these steps a few times but we have found this is the most effective solution.
I have attached an article on this exact process that you can also look through.
