Surfboard Carrier for 2017 Honda CR-V With Factory Crossbars
Question:
Hi there, I have just purchased a 2017 Honda CRV. I had the company install the roof rack and crossbars so that I can use it for my surfboards or kayak. I thought stupidly that the cross bars were adjustable-they are not. To use the rack for an 8 foot or longer surfboard is not going to work at the crossbars are too close together, about 20 inches. I am wondering if it would be possible to add a third bar in the front Yakima or Thule so that longer boards can rest on the third bar as well, thereby removing the need to tie the boards to the front and rear bumper every time I run to the beach, about ten miles away. Please let me know what you think!

I may have a solution for you, though you cannot add a roof rack bar to your 2017 Honda CR-V since it already has the factory rack installed.
Instead, what you may be able to do, depending on a couple measurements you need to take, is use the Inno Board Locker Surfboard Carrier # INA744. This will work on crossbars that are a minimum of 20 inches apart; you mentioned yours were about 20 inches so I recommend measuring to make sure.
You will also need to measure the crossbars themselves. The Inno Board Locker is a clamp-on carrier that will work with bars that are aero, square or round and a maximum of 3-1/2" wide x 1-1/8" tall, though you could use Long Bolt Kit # INISF711 if the bars were up to 2" tall. The only other thing to keep in mind is that the carrier will work with boards that have a maximum width of 23-1/2".
I have added a link to a video review of this carrier for you to take a look at as well.
