Is Optronics 48 LED Light # STL70RB Brighter Than Optronics 10 Super LED Light # STL72RB
Question:
Are more diodes like the STL70 series better than fewer like the STL72 series. Are they brighter and how about durability. This is for an E-Z Loader boat trailer. Thanks

I spoke with my contact at Optronics and they said the trailer lights are measured in candela output. Candela output is the luminous intensity of the light, or candle power. For comparison they said the candela output on a 100 watt incandescent light bulb in your home is 100 cd.
They said the Optronics Sealed, 6-1/2 Inch Oval LED Trailer Light, 10 Super LEDs, part # STL72RB, uses 10 Super LEDs and has a candela output of 12 cd on the tail lights and 221 cd on the stop and turn lights.
On the Optronics Sealed, 6-1/2 inch Oval LED Trailer Light, 48 LEDs, part # STL70RB, it uses 48 normal LEDs and has a candela output of 14 cd for the tail lights and 201 cd on the stop and turn lights.
So even though the # STL70RB light has more LEDs, because they are normal LEDs, the light out put is not any greater than the # STL72RB light that has the 10 Super LEDs.
The brightness of the trailer lights will be limited because they do have to meet the Department of Transportation requirements. The durability would be the same on both of the LED lights.
