Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2,600 lb Pop Up Camper

Question:

I have a fleetwood pop up trailer with weight of 2600- towing with 2017 Toyota Highlander 2WD, towing capacity of 5000 lbs, factory installed tow package. We get a lot of sag on the rear of the highlander. Would a weight distribution hitch help? If so, which would you recommend?

Yes, a weight distribution system will do a great job reducing the sag at the rear suspension of your 2017 Toyota Highlander 2WD. It distributes some of the tongue weight up to the front axle of the tow vehicle which improves braking and handling so it's a great solution.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For a trailer that weighs 2,600 lbs the best WD system would be the Reese Strait-Line kit part # RP66082 which has a range of 200-600 lb tongue weight and features only sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
