Does ZCI Trailer Wiring Harness # 119250KIT Have to Run to Vehicle Battery

Question:

ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit Item # 119250KIT For this kit, can I take the power wire that goes to the battery and splice it into a 12v DC car adapter charger cord, and then just plug it into the 12v power source in the cargo bay? Battery is under the drivers seat, so a real pain and mess.

I really wish I could recommend taking the shortcut you mentioned when installing the ZCI trailer wiring kit part # 119250KIT but if you don't run it direclty off the battery you end up defeating the purpose of the circuit protection that this feature offers. The way it works now the power comes straight from the battery which means that in the event of a short it wouldn't damage any of the vehicle's wiring. If you ran it off of another circuit you'd void the warranty of the system and it could potentially damage the vehicle wiring.
