Can My Weight Distribution System Be Used On Another Vehicle?
Question:
I have a weight distribution hitch system that rates out at a max tongue weight of 801-1200 lbs and gross trailer weight of 10,000 lbs. My brother wants to buy it from me to pull his 13 ft trailer using his Ford Explorer. My question is: Would my system which has the spring bars and a friction sway bar fit his rigs trailer and suv?

When trying to figure out if a product like Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17062 which has spring bars and friction sway bars can fit a Ford Explorer they answer is likely yes.
There are a couple of factors that we need to consider. Does the Ford Explorer have a trailer hitch that is rated for weight distribution? What is the towing capacity of the Ford Explorer with weight distribution? This information can be found in the Ford Explorer's owners manual. Or by calling the manufacturer, just have the VIN number ready. You will also need to know fully loaded weight of the trailer.
If the Ford Explorer is rated to tow a tongue weight between 800 to 1200 lbs and the trailer weighs less than 10,000 lbs then yes the weight distribution hitch will work for him The spring bars and the friction sway bar will also work on his Explorer. Those items are not vehicle specific, which means they will work with any vehicle that the weight distribution system is used on.
Next, we need to determine the fully loaded weight of the trailer. The fully loaded weight means everything is packed on the trailer as if you are ready to travel. That total weight needs to be 10,000 lbs or less. Also we need to check the tongue weight. Tongue Weight (TW) for weight distribution refers to the tongue weight of your loaded trailer plus the weight of the cargo that sits behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle. Trailer TW is measured using a tongue weight scale # e99044. TW is typically, about 10 to 15 percent of GTW. If the fully loaded weight of the trailer is 10,000 lbs or less and the tongue weight falls between 800 and 1200 lbs then the system is okay for your brother to use provided the Explorer is rated to tow that weight.
I have an article attached on how to Determining Trailer Tongue Weight
