Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Controller that Shows No-Connection/Green Light

No green light when trailer plugged in

From what you're describing it sounds like you have the Voyager Brake Controller # 39510. The power for the green light comes from the black wire, however it is only engaged when the controller senses the load from the brake magnets on your trailer.
Most likely you have corrosion on the brake output circuit between the connectors which is preventing the connection from being made.
