20k Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for 2018 Ford F-350

Question:

I am looking to purchase an F350 SRW to pull a 5th wheel toy hauler. My reasoning for SRW vs. DRW is I have to drive it to work and park in a parking garage. The SRW has a 5th wheel towing capacity of 18,000 and goose neck of 20,600. The two RVs we are looking at have GVWR of 20,000 and 19,000. Both dry weights are under 17,000. I understand the 5th wheel towing capacity is limited due to how it connects to the frame vs. the goose neck hitch, but my question is this, if I dont get the truck pre prepped for 5th wheel and I purchase your 20,000 5th wheel made for un prepped trucks, can I extend the 5th wheel towing capacity to 20,000? It is not my intention to tow the rv completed loaded down with all tanks full, but I dont think it would be hard to go over 18,000.

You'd really have to check with Ford to see about what it would take to increase the towing capacity of a 2018 Ford F-350. Sounds like it's the rail system of the truck, but only they have the authority for that call.

We have a 20k rated hitch Reese Select Plus part # RP30081 which would be a great option for towing. It has one of the nicest fifth wheel jaw designs around which means you'll have excellent king pin contact for minimal noise. Then for a rail kit you'll want to go with a custom install kit like the Reese part # RP56017-53 which is a fit for your truck. The advantage a custom rail kit has over a universal is that it will install in less than half the time and will minimize drilling.
