Can a 2015 Ram 1500 With 5-1/2 Foot Bed Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
I’m thinking of purchasing a 2015 ram 5.7 hemi with a 5 1/2’ bed Is there a 5th wheel hitch that would fit this application? Thanks for the help.

You can tow a fifth wheel trailer with your 2015 Ram but the 5-1/2 foot bed could make it difficult to execute sharp turns. With such a short bed the pivot point between hitch and trailer is so close to the truck's cab that the trailer will hit the cab during sharp turns. Even with a sliding hitch its unlikely you're going to have enough clearance. The best solution is a fixed hitch with a rotating pin box called a Sidewinder. The Sidewinder moves the pivot point back 22 inches to help clear your cab. To get the proper Sidewinder for your trailer you need to find out the model number of its current pin box. If you can tell me that model number I'll be happy to find the Sidewinder that'll work for you.
For a 5th wheel hitch I recommend the Reese M5 # RP30928. This hitch has more than enough capacity for your truck and trailer at 20,000lbs, so you know it will get the job done and last a long time. To install it in your Ram use the install kit # RP50142-58. It's a custom install kit that fits your truck with no driling into the frame.
The 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Plug # 50-97-410 will keep you from having to run the trailer connector over the tailgate and down to the bumper. It connects your factory 7-pole at the bumper to a new 7-pole in the truck bed. Adapter has a 90-degree angle for tight spaces.
