If you are referring to the actual brakes of the trailer and not the brake lights then this could be a problem with either the brake controller, wiring or magnets. The first step I would take would be to apply the manual override on the controller and then test the blue brake output wire with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 at varying points between the tow vehicle and trailer to see if the connection stops. If there is a point on the wire the signal does not flow, then you will want to trace the wire back while checking for breaks or frays. You can use part # 10-1-1 if any of the wire is unrepairable.

If there is not any signal on the brake output wire then there is a problem with the controller. To test the controller you will first want to make sure it has power and then sever the blue wire about 6" behind the controller and apply the override while checking for signal. If you do not have signal then the controller is bad and it will need to be replaced. For this, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 which is one of our best selling brake controllers due to its integrated safeguards and continuous diagnostics checks. If the controller tests good and you get power in the wiring all the way down to the braking assemblies then I would first check the ground for each brake and then test the magnets for functions using the help article I have attached for you.

If this does not fix your problem then please let me know and I will be happy to provide further troubleshooting procedures for you.
