Recommendation to Connect 4-Way Flat to 7-Way Connector on Trailer with Brakes that Won't be Used

Question:

We have a trailer with a 7 way connector for the electric brakes. Our current tow vehicle has a 4 way flat plug. We are not towing much weight, so we do not need the brakes right now. Is there an adapter that goes from a 4 way flat truck side to a 7 way round trailer side, which is the male side.

Expert Reply:

If you don't actually need to power the trailer's brakes, and just need to connect to its 7-Way so you can power its basic signal lights, then you can use the Tow Ready Adapter # 30717. This will plug right into the 4-Way flat on your tow vehicle and provide a 7-Way on the other end to hookup with the trailer. You will ground the white wire to a clean, bare metal surface, but the remaining wires coming out of the harness won't be needed so they can just be tied off.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this adapter that you can check out.
