Can Gen-Y Receiver Plate # 325-GH-724 be Mounted Only Using the Top 4 Holes
Question:
I have a 1997 ram 3500 utility body with a lift kit. The truck currently has a bolt on pintle hitch that is mounted to the utility body/truck frame. I am looking to have adjustability or to lower it so i can tow trailers again. Is it possible to use just the top 4 mounting bolts on this system to mount to my truck? Will i still have towing capacity? Do all 8 bolt holes need to be used? Does the entire plate need to be supported for a proper towing capacity? I will likely be towing a 12k rated car/utility trailer with up to but no more than 10k on it max. Thank you. I can send pictures or more info if needed.

No, I cannot recommend using only the top 4 mounting holes on the Gen-Y receiver plate # 325-GH-724. That essentially makes the rating of the unit unknown. You might like the Covert-A-Ball pintle hook combo # PH1. With it you can tow trailers that require a pintle hitch as well as trailers that couple to a ball. But there isn't any height adjustability. The mounting holes on this unit are spaced 3-3/8 inches apart on center side to side and 1-3/4 inches apart on center top to bottom.
