Reverse Lockout Not Working Using 4-Way to 7-Way Adapter on 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Question:

This was installed on my 2008 Honda Ridgeline when I bought it. The lights work on/off, signal, brake, etc but it does not deactivate my surge breaks when the car is put in reverse. Is this just a matter of a bad/non-complete installation or do I need to purchased additional harness to get this functionality? There is a 7-pin adaptor connected to this which is what I connect to for what its worth.

A 4-Way trailer wiring harness such as # 118400 has the basic lighting functions but does not have a reverse light function and that is what you need to activate an electric reverse lockout on a surge coupler.

Since you already have the 4-Way plugged into an adapter to use the 7-Way on the trailer connector you just have to activate the reverse light circuit on that 7-Way adapter. To do this look on the back of the 7-Way adapter. There are likely some wires not connected to anything.

One of these is likely purple or yellow and goes to the center pole of the 7-Way. That is the reverse light wire. All you will need to do is splice it into a reverse light wire on your 2008 Honda Ridgeline and you will be good to go!
