Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2018 Subaru Forester
Question:
Would like to know all parts needed to flat tow 2018 Subaru Forester. Is a separate lighting kit needed aside from Air Force one braking kit? Does this kit allow turn signals and tail lights to work?

The SMI Air Force One # SM99243 is a great braking system to use on your 2018 Subaru Forester as long as your motorhome has air brakes. This kit includes an LED coach notification system that lets you know when the brakes in your tow vehicle are being applied, but it will not activate the lights on your Forester, you will need a separate kit for that.
For a complete flat towing setup you will need a supplemental braking system (the Air Force One), a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, and possibly a high-low adapter.
The base plate kit that I recommend is the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit # RM-52923-4 which fits non-turbo Foresters with a manual transmission. This is a custom fit and works great with the Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 and Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643.
The Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 is a popular choice around here because after the initial installation it is very easy to connect and then if you need to charge your battery you can add the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to the middle pin of the 6-Way.
Most flat towing setups require the use of a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar within the safety range of operation. I have linked our selection of adapters as well as a helpful article on how to choose the correct one for your application.
Attached are some sample videos you can check out but it is also helpful to reference your owner's manual for specific instructions on flat towing.
