Recommended Hitch Expander with 5 Inch Rise

Question:

I have a 2013 gti with a Curt hitch 1 1/4” and would like to use my 2” Thule T2 but it hangs too low with a normal strait adapter. I am looking for something that would adapt but also raise the bike rack as much as possible 5”? Suggestions? Thank you

To expand the 1-1/4 inch receiver opening on your 2013 VW GTI, while also giving you a 5 inch rise, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R. This adapter will give you exactly what you are needing, converting the 1-1/4 inch receiver on your vehicle to a 2 inch opening to be compatible with your Thule bike rack, along with providing you with a 5-1/2 inch rise from the top of the shank.

Please just keep in mind that when using this or any other hitch adapter, the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch is reduced by 50 percent. This means that if the hitch on your GTI features a 200 pound tongue weight capacity, this will be reduced to 100 pounds when using an adapter. You will need to make sure the combined weight of your bike rack and bikes do not exceed this reduced limit.
