Parts Needed to Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2009 Toyota Highlander
Question:
I installed a CURT 56217 4 flat trailer wire connector on my 2009 Highlander. It works great. Id like to go to 7 pole now to add trailer brakes and a 12V circuit to charge trailer batteries. Is there a clean, plug and play option?

We have everything you will need to install a 7-way trailer connector for trailer brakes and battery charging on your 2009 Toyota Highlander all in one kit, but unfortunately a simple plug and play option does not exist for your vehicle.
Instead, you will want to install our 7-Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. This kit comes with everything you will need to install the 7-way you are looking for and have complete functionality. I've attached an installation video on a 2010 Highlander to give you an idea of what is involved to add a 7-way to your vehicle.
The only other parts recommendations I have for you are a long mounting bracket for the 7-way connector, # 18136, to provide a cleaner look at the back of your Highlander and a brake controller to control the trailer brakes. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195, which is also featured in the installation video I attached. This is a very user friendly brake controller and provides a much more comprehensive display than most brake controllers that only show you a number or a single light.
