5th Wheel Base Rail Brackets for Older GMC/Chevy K2500

Question:

Im trying to install a rail kit to an older GMC/Chev K2500 1988 to 1998. I have a Reese Classic K18 18,000lb cap 5th wheel hitch. It seems the universal bracket kits only catch the back flange of the rails. Im concerned that there isnt enough meat in the bracket to be safe at max gross hitch capacity if it isnt catching both the front and back flange of the rail. I find lots of universal bracket kits - but Im hoping to find a custom kit to do the job. Do you know of a kit that will carry-back to the older vehicles? Ive included a couple of photos of the frame rails of the truck in question. Thanks!

There are not custom brackets that go back that far on your K-Series truck. The Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP30035 will work well for your truck and are rated for more towing capacity than the hitch. I've attached the installation details and you will want to look at pages 6 or 8 to determine fit based on your frame. You will see in both cases you will bet a lot of bracket on the frame.

Another option that will give you more frame contact is to use the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1000-5W which will give you an underbed gooseneck hitch and allow you to also use the Curt X5 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches - 20,000 lbs # 16310. This will give you an underbed option for a clean bed when not towing, a gooseneck hitch, and the ability to use your Reese hitch utilizing the adapter.
