Overload "O.L" Code on the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller Part # 90885

Question:

I bought this about a year ago or so. Worked fine last year now no trailer hooked up what so ever the controller will flash NC randomly. Sometimes it doesnt do it sometimes it will do it 3-4 times in a hundred miles. Sometimes it will show a c for connected to a trailer when there isnt one hooked up. And when I do have a trailer hooked up mind you this trailer is light, I can pick it up at the tongue and move it by man power. It gives me the ol as it says it has seen an overload.

The overload "O.L" code you are seeing on the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 refers to a short in the wiring and has no bearing on the weight of the trailer. Based on the symptoms you described, it sounds like you have a short on the blue brake output wire that runs from the brake controller to the 7-way trailer connector. In order to fix this you are going to need to trace the blue brake output wire from the controller all the way back to the 7-way trailer connector while checking for breaks or frays in the line.

If you cannot find the brake or fray in the line then it may just be best for you to run a new wire using part # 10-1-1. You will also want to check the pins inside each of the trailer connectors for corrosion. The corrosion could be causing the signal to jump circuits. Once you clean the pins off you will want to use some of part # 11755 before mating them back together. If this does not fix your problem please let me know and I would be happy to offer additional troubleshooting advice for you.
