Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2008 Ford Expedition and 2007 Chevy Silverado
Question:
Im purchasing a 2012 Fleetwood premier 2516g and my tow vehicles will be a 2008 Ford expedition with a 5.4L v8 and a 2007 Silverado with a 5.3L v8. Which brake controller do you recommend amid do I need a sway controller?

For both your 2008 Ford Expedition and 2007 Chevy Silverado, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This is an excellent, proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your tow vehicle. It features an easy-to-read LCD display, storable settings, and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. For an additional mounting bracket, you can use part # TK5906.
If your Ford Expedition came with the factory 7-Way connector at the rear, you will just need the Plug-In Adapter # 3035-P to install the controller. One end will plug into the brake controller itself, while the other end will connect to the built-in plug beneath the Expedition's dash.
If your 2007 Silverado came with the factory 7-Way connector, there is not a plug present beneath the dash, but all the neeed wires are already run. You will just connect the pigtail wiring from the controller to the wiring already present beneath the dash.
If one or both of your vehicles did not come with the factory 7-Way, please let me know and I can recommend the additional wiring parts you will need. I have attached a short video demonstration on the Prodigy P3 that you can also take a look at.
A weight distribution system or sway control might be beneficial for your pop up camper, but given its relatively light weight, I recommend simply taking it out for a couple test drives to see how it handles first. If you find that you are having issues with sway or controlling the vehicle during travel, then you will want to consider adding a sway bar or complete weight distribution with sway control. In the meantime, I have attached a great article on weight distribution that you might find helpful.
