Question:
Does this procedure differ for a 2003 530i? Everyone Ive spoken to about this talks like its a huge deal, including the dealership.

The installation of CURT Trailer Hitch, # 11179, will be the same on your 2003 530i as it is in our video of a 2001. What makes this hitch installation time consuming is the fact that you will have to remove the rear fascia and do some drilling. This will have you going back and forth from under the car to the trunk area several times.
I would not say it is difficult, but it will take longer than the average bolt on hitch installation. I have included a link to the video and a link to the installation instructions so you can see what is involved when installing this hitch.
If you plan on doing some towing, the hitch comes with the correct ball mount, pin and clip. For a ball use # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, CURT recommends harness # C59236.
