How do the wires for the 4 way flat attach to the back of the new plug?

The 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 that you referenced has a US Car Connector on it. This plugs into a connector that is typically already installed on the vehicle.

If your vehicle doesn't already have a US Car Connector then you also need the 4' Pigtail Wiring Harness # PK11998 which has the other end of the US Car Connection and comes with the proper hardware to connect the following wire colors to the following functions on your vehicle:

Red - Left Turn and Stop - 14 gauge
White - Ground - 10 gauge
Blue - Electric Brakes - 12 gauge
Green - Right Turn and Stop - 14 gauge
Black - Battery - 12 gauge
Brown - Running Lamps - 14 gauge
Yellow - Backup Lamps - 14 gauge
