Trailer Tire Blow Outs on a 2007 Carriage Cameo 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2007 Carriage Cameo 5th wheel trailer and I currently have Goodyear Marathon ST235/80R16e tires on it. On this last trip to FL I had 2 blow outs. Really bad blow outs. One caused considerable damage to the fender well. I had 80 psi in the tires and they were practical new and I was only traveling at about 60 mph. I believe that the tires blew up from tire pressure caused by heat but I cant figure out why. I am looking for the best tire I can find to put on my camper. What do you recommend? I should be able to travel at 60 mph on just about any day as long as I have the right tire pressure in the tires - correct?

What probably occurred was excessive heat build up like you have said. Trailer tires are made with a thicker side wall. This thicker side wall is made to handle more vertical load associated with trailers. If a tire is under inflated, this will allow for excessive heat to build up and the tire will not be able to cool down like normal. This is when you get blowouts.
The solution is easy. Make sure that you inflate the tires to the maximum psi rating as indicated on the tire. For the Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire, # AM10248, it should be inflated to 90 psi and it has a capacity of 3,197 pounds.
Besides proper inflation, you will also need to make sure that the tires are not overloaded. Adding weight beyond what the tires are capable of will also lead to heat build up and blowouts.
All of the trailer tires we carry have a maximum speed rating of 65 mph. I have included a link to our trailer tire FAQ that includes even more helpful information for you.
