Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD With 6-1/2 Bed

Question:

Im getting ready to purchase a 2018 GM2500 HD Denali 6 1/2foot bed to pull a 5th wheel. I dont have either the truck or the 5th wheel yet. Should I get the GM Factory hitch or just get the Reese hitch? What are the pros and cons of each. I definitely want the under bed hitch. As far as the 5th wheel Im looking at the Alpine or the Montana 34foot 5th wheel. Do I need a sliding hitch for this one or can I get a standard hitch? Thanks

First, you are going to need a sliding hitch for the 6-1/2 foot bed on your 2018 GMC Sierra 2500. And I would highly recommend an aftermarket hitch which is very high quality at a better price. It is a very good idea to get the factory underbed rail kit like you mentioned.

The fifth wheel hitch I highly recommend is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3770. The Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available. With more than 450 reviews from our customers who have purchased it, this hitch has gotten a nearly unanimous 5-star rating. It features dual jaws which are a full 1" thick to provide complete contact with your king pin so you can have faith that your connection is completely secure. I've added a picture of the jaws so you can see for yourself how impressive they are. The Companion is also going to give you a much quieter ride with less rattling than other fifth wheels due to that secure connection, along with the polyurethane bushings it has.

This hitch also has a pivoting head to make hooking up easier, a cam-action latch to deter binding, offers three different height settings to ensure you are level with your fifth wheel, will fit directly into the underbed puck system in your '18 Sierra, and has a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs. I've added links to video reviews of the Companion for you to take a look at as well.
