Why Does the Roadmaster Hitch Extender Part # RM-071 Only Have a 100 Lb Tongue Weight Capacity

Question:

Why does this hitch extender have only a 100 lb tongue weight. I realize it is for flat tow use but does it mean the welding seam is light or flimsy. How can it have an overall weight capacity of 6000 lb? If it can barley stand up to downward pressure how does it manage to hold together at 6000 lbs.

Expert Reply:

The Roadmaster Hitch Extender part # RM-071 is designed specifically for flat towing. A toad vehicle will not have much of a tongue weigh at all which is why this adapter is only rated for 100 lbs tongue weight (TW) and 6,000 lbs gross trailer weight (GTW).

I have attached a review video on the extender for you as well.
