To install the Draw-Tite Activator IV Brake Controller # 5504, in your 1996 Chevrolet K1500 Truck, you will need to use the the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. If your truck does not have a 4-way connector, you will first need to install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118315.

To install, you will begin by plugging in the T-One Harness # 118315, if you do not already have a 4-way connector. Then you can install part # ETBC7. Begin, by plugging the 4-way on the vehicle into the 4-way of part # ETBC7. Then connect the remaining wires: White is the ground wire and should be connected to a clean metal surface on the vehicle frame. Black is 12 volt power and should be connected to the battery via included 40 amp circuit breaker. Blue is output for brake controller and should be connected to the White wire of the duplex cable and connected to the Blue wire coming out of the back of the brake controller. Purple is for reverse lights or aux power and can be tied out of the way if your trailer does not have reverse lights. The Blue and Black wire will be connected to the Duplex cable, and you will run the Duplex cable up to the front of the vehicle.

Then, you will need to mount the brake controller in-reach of the driver. Then connect the wires on the brake controller. The White wire is ground and should be ran to the negative battery terminal. Black is 12-volt powers and should be ran to the battery via a circuit breaker indicated in the instructions. Blue is brake controller output and will connect to the White wire of the Duplex cable. The Red wire should be connected to the stoplight switch, which is the wire near the brake pedal that only has power when the brake pedal is applied. You will need to use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993 to find this wire. If you have difficulty finding this wire, you can connect the red wire to the power wire going to the 3rd brake light.

I have linked a video installation of the Draw-Tite Activator IV Brake Controller # 5504, being installed on another vehicle which shows the installation of the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.
