Trailer is Still Swaying when Using Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution
Question:
Recently ordered this hitch for our new Prime Time Avenger 27DBS with a dry tongue weight of 721 pounds that is being pulled behind a 2017 Ford F-150 5.0 liter Supercrew 5.5 foot bed. Brought the hitch to the RV dealership and they installed per instructions according to them. Got on the highway and trailer sways badly at 55 miles per hour. I brought the trailer home and re-installed hitch and trailer still sways badly at 55 miles per hour with no additional weight in the trailer still empty. What could be causing this issue? The tongue of the trailer is wide and the bars of this system does not have the ball bearing centered when the trailer is hooked up, would this be causing the excessive sway since in essence the ball bearings are just scooting around on the hitch head and not in the recess?

I looked at pictures of the Prime Time Avenger 27DBS and it does not appear that the frame is more narrow or even wider than any other A-frame. So it should be at the standard 50 degree angle as far as I can tell. That would mean that when installed and set up correctly the ball bearings should be in their detents on Curt system # C17500.
You may need to adjust the angle of the head though. If the head is in a position where the spring bars are pointed too far up or down then those ball bearings would not be in the right place. Adjusting the head angle, head position on the shank, and/or spring bar height on the trailer end should solve this issue.
Also keep in mind this system is rated for 800 to 1,000 pounds tongue weight. When your trailer is empty the system is rated too high for the dry tongue weight and that can create a stiffer ride. It wouldn't necessarily add to the sway problem though. Just an FYI.
