The controller engages the brakes for 5-10 seconds before releasing. I can hear a click in the controller. What is the issue?

What you are experiencing is not normal and there is reason for concern, so I reached out to my contact at Curt. They first recommend unplugging the Triflex # C24VV controller and letting it sit for 10-15 minutes before reconnecting it. That will reset the software in the controller and will fix any minor issues within the controller.
The next thing I recommend is to test is the physical wiring. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the red wire on your controller to see if it is carrying signal for only the time you press the brake. If the signal is longer than you press the brake, you may have a sticking brake switch that needs replaced.
If you do not have signal past your physical pressing of the brake pedal on that red wire, then there is an internal problem with the controller and I recommend either contacting the manufacturer if it is under warranty or replacing it.
