How to Power an Electric Winch on a Boat Trailer

Question:

Would the battery for a breakaway kit be able to handle a 2500lb ATV winch mounted to my boat trailer? My boat is a tracker grizzly 1860.

I do have options for you but a breakaway battery would not be sufficient to power an electric winch. Instead, you would either need to A) install a 12 volt auxiliary battery and battery charger on the trailer or B) run a power cable from the vehicle's battery to the winch. In order to do option A) I recommend using the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D along with the 12 volt battery of your choice. In order to do option B) I recommend using the Winch Trailer Wiring Kit part # BDW20206.
