It is a good idea for both axles on a tandem axle trailer to have the same rating. Even if the 6,000 lb capacity of your axles is rated high enough for your trailer, if you have a load heavier than 2,500 lbs sitting over your 2,500 lb rated axle it will not be able to handle it. I recommend replacing that axle with one rated for 3,500 lbs such as # T3584F-8974. This axle measures 89" from hub face to hub face and 74" from spring center to spring center.

You will need to know those two measurements (hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center) in order to get the correct replacement axle. I've added a link to our selection of 3,500 lb axles for you to check out.
