Recommend Reese Weight Distribution System For 2003 Coleman Niagara Elite Pop-Up Camper Trailer

Question:

I have a 1999 suburban and a 2003 Coleman niagara elite pop up, what weight distribution hitch do I need? I have a sway control bar, but it still sways a bit unless I really tighten the sway control down. Thanks

When selecting a weight distribution system, you want to select a system that has a tongue weight capacity that encompasses 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight when it is fully loaded and ready to tow, plus the weight of anything loaded in the tow vehicle that is behind the rear axle.

I did some research and found that the GVWR of the 2003 Coleman Niagara Elite pop-up is 3,450 lbs. For just a weight distribution system, the Reese Weight Distribution System, part # RP66540.This system is just a weight distribution system and is good for trailers with a tongue weight between 200 and 600 lbs.

Another option would be to use the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control, part # RP66086. This system features built-in, dual-cam sway control which will help prevent trailer sway before it even begins, unlike friction sway control which starts to work when the trailer begins to sway.

You will need to be certain of your Gross Trailer Weight before selecting a weight distribution system. You will also want to make sure that you have room for attaching the spring bars to the frame on the tongue of the trailer and that nothing is in the way.

The item you selected, Reese Light-Duty Weight Distribution System, part # RP66069, would be too light of a system for your towing setup.

I have linked an FAQ on weight distribution that shows how to measure the tongue weight of your trailer. Also linked are instructions for the Reese Weight Distribution System, part # RP66540.
