Height Range of B&W Companion Hitch for Ram Hitch Prep Package

Question:

Here is my original question/answer from Jason... What settings location over axle and height do you recommend for the BandW companion with 2017 RAM 3500 Mega Cab that has the 5th Wheel prep? The King pin is a 19K Reese Sidewinder. My trailer is a 2017 Open Range 3X 427 BHS with 16 Inch Rims. This trailer is known to already ride nose high. Your thoughts? asked by: Michael A Expert Reply: If the trailer sits nose high currently then youd want to go with the lower height setting for the head of the B and W Companion for Ram OEM rail kit # BWRVK3670 to help allow the trailer to sit level. Since you have a Sidewinder pin box you really dont need a slider hitch since the Sidewinder is designed to provide the additional clearance. So instead the hitch youd want is the part # BWRVK3600. If you already have the Slider Companion you can still use it but you have to leave it in the slid forward position at all times. If you wanted to convert to a fixed hitch base youd only need the part # BWRVB3600 with the head you already have. The advantage to this would be a lighter weight hitch with fewer moving parts which means less noise when towing as well. The correct wedge youd need for a Companion hitch with the Sidewinder is the part # SWW-06. Id go with a neutral forward to back setting as well. But here is my follow-on question: Jameson, Thanks for your response. I should have stated that I do have a BandW model 3600. I was actually installing the hitch yesterday. I came across a warning sticker label placed near the coupler. The warning was to not use the BandW 3600 with a Reese sidewinder. Prior to purchasing the hitch from etrailer, I checked with your customer service to confirm that this configuration was acceptable and the response was yes. Has BandW changed its position since I purchased the product in January ? Could you also clarify nuetral forward to back setting? For example, over the axle with a 19 elevation? Thanks

What was meant by neutral forward to back is that there is a middle setting that puts the jaws of the hitch in the center most position available. That would be what I would start with.

The height range of the # BWRVK3600 is 17 to 19 inches measured from the floor of the truck bed. In the tallest position you'd be at 19 so I would go with the tallest height setting and then the center most horizontal position.

In the picture I attached you can see how the different position settings are used.
