Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Installation Kit for 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab Pickup
Question:
Hi, I just purchased a 5th wheel that is 10,920 GVWR. It is equipped with a Turning Point pin box. I will be towing it with a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab short bed - 63 Which 5th wheel hitch will I need? Does tilting all 4 directions as opposed to just front/back make a difference in ride quality? Thanks.

The main benefit of a 5th wheel hitch that has a 4-way pivoting head is easier hitching and un-hitching. The ability to pivot in all directions means the head will be better able to shift as required to accept the king pin, and of course to release it too. Ride quality is not so much a benefit of this feature.
Since your trailer has a Lippert Turning Point pivoting pin box for improved turning clearance you can use a fixed (non-sliding and non-cushioned) type 5th wheel hitch. For an above-bed base rail kit custom-fit to your truck I suggest the Curt kit # C16420-204. This costs less than similar options and will work great with any brand of industry-standard 5th wheel. For a cost-effective 16K hitch you might consider the Curt # C16115 which is highlighted in the linked video. For an in-bed wiring harness you can use part # C56001.
You'll want to double-check your printed owner's manual to make certain your trailer is within the rated towing capacity for your specific truck.
