Converter Recommendation for Separating Trailer Turn Signal Circuits from Brake Lights

Question:

I am using the 7 wire plug to tow vehicle sold on the Etrailer site. Center license and running light comes off the green plug wire and work fine. My center light is also designed to function as a brake light. The brown and red wires coming out of the plug function as brake, and right and left directional lights respectively. Connecting either to the center light gives me brake light AND the respective directional. The blue brake light from the plug does not light the center brake light. How do I get a brake only center light?

7-way trailer wiring is not designed for giving you a dedicated brake light circuit as standard trailer wiring has the stoplights and turn signals carried on the same circuit like you have found. I attached a picture that shows how a 7-way is typically wires. You could rewire your trailer and vehicle to carry the circuits any way you wish, but typically sticking with the standard diagram is the best and then to convert from separate to combined circuits you'd want to use a converter like the # 118158 which you'd want to install on the trailer side of the wiring.
