Trailer Hitch and Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2014 Ford Escape
Question:
I’m confused by a response you gave indicating that a weight distributing hitch couldn’t be used with a 2014 Ford Escape due to the 11/4” receptor. My 2014 has a 2” receiveron factory installed hitch. Can this take a width, or can I have a class three installed to accommodate a heavier tongue weight than the class II accommodates...350lbs? Thanks!

We have Class III hitches that fit your 2014 Ford Escape that are rated for weight distribution like the Draw Tite hitch part # 75758 but you'd have to check the owners manual of your Escape to determine if the factory hitch is rated for weight distribution or not. Based on the towing capacity of the Draw Tite hitch part # 75758 the best option for a weight distribution system would be the Strait Line # RP66082 which has a tongue weight range of 200-600 lbs and features only sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
