Recommendation For Equalizer Hitch For Towing 2017 Jayco 260 With 2018 Ram 2500
Question:
What would be the recommended Equalizer hitch for a Ram 2500 towing a 2017 Jayco 260 with a curb weight of 6900 pounds and a max weight of 10,000. I currently own a equalizer 10,000 which seemed to do a decent job when towing with my previous Ram 1500. However that hitch has seen better days and needs replaced. Would the 12,000 or 14,000 hitch be a better fit for this setup?

To get the right Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution (WD) system for your towing setup, you need to know your actual Tongue Weight (TW) when fully loaded and ready to tow. You will also need to include any weight from behind the rear axle of your 2018 Ram 2500. To make this easier, I recommend using something like the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale, Item # e99044. As you determine this weight, keep in mind that the TW is 10% to 15% of the total loaded weight of your trailer.
After you have that Tongue Weight (TW) figured out, your ideal WD system will be one where the total TW of your towing setup falls in the middle of the TW range of the WD system.
If the TW of your loaded trailer is say between 750-lbs to 850-lbs then the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System with 4-Point Sway Control, Item # EQ37100ET, will work well because it has a TW range of 600-lbs to 1,000-lbs with a maximum gross towing weight of 10,000-lbs as well as the sway control.
However, if your fully loaded and ready to tow TW is say between 850-lbs to 1,125-lbs then you need a bigger system like Item # EQ37120ET. This Equal-i-zer system has a TW range of 800-lbs to 1,200-lbs with a maximum gross towing weight of 12,000-lbs.
Both systems include an adjustable head assembly, 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, adjustable shank, and all the hardware needed to install and use the WD system. To make installation of the hitch ball easier, I recommend getting the Vanadium steel 1-7/8 inch 12pt Socket, Item # ALL643216.
I have attached some articles and videos for you to review.
