Is It Safe to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer with Storage Cover in Place
Question:
Can a 5th wheel be towed with a high quality canvas cover installed?
asked by: Mike
Expert Reply:
It is not a good idea to tow any trailer with a storage cover in place.
Driving at highway speeds will almost surely weaken if not damage parts of the cover. In the worst-case scenario, a cover could start to break apart on the highway and cause injury to you or other motorists. The storage covers we sell for travel trailers and 5th wheels are intended to resist the elements but not the sustained forces from winds at continuous highway speeds.
If you were talking about driving the covered trailer 5 miles on local roads at 30-mph, say to of from your local storage lot, then it would be a less-scary proposition but still not a good idea.
