Will the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System Work with a Surge Brake Coupler
Question:
Would this WD system Part Number RP66558 be usable on a boat trailer with surge brakes? Will it allow the trailer surge brakes to operate correctly?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System part # RP66558 is compatible with trailers that have a surge brake coupler. The surge brake coupler will not be affected by this type of weight distribution system. Generally speaking, as long as the weight distribution system does not have chain style spring bars then it will work with surge brake couplers.
Please keep in mind that in order to choose the best weight distribution system for your trailer, you will need to find both the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer and add that by any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. As long as this figure is between 400 - 600 lbs then this system will work well for you.
In order to use the Steadi-Flex you will also need a hitch ball as one is not included. For this, I recommend part # 63845 for 2" or part # 63847 for 2-5/16". Please keep in mind that if you have a bumper or straight pull trailer then you will need to use an adapter like the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems part # RP3280.
I have linked a few review videos on the above weight distribution system for you as well.
