Trailer Hitch and 2 Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2008 Toyota Prius

Question:

What hitch and bike rack 2 bike would you recommend for a 2008 Prius? I will be putting the bike rack on/off frequently, so ease of use is also important. Thanks for your detailed help.

I would recommend going with the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch, # 24808, on your 2008 Toyota Prius for carrying 2 bikes. We have a video installation for you to review and I have attached installation instructions for you to review.

For a bike rack the Thule Doubletrack, # TH92BJ, would be a great choice. It is designed to work in the Class I hitch recommended above and will provide clearance at the back for going over speed bumps and entering steep drives and parking lots with large dips. The weight of this rack is 32 pounds so you will just need to be sure that the weight of your bikes and anything loaded behind the rear axle of the Prius does not add up to more than 200 pounds including the bike rack.

If you will be carrying bikes without a horizontal top bar built into the frame you may need a adapter bar, # TH982XT. We have a video showing how these bars are used for you to review.
