Installing brake controllers can be pretty involved depending on your vehicle and on Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles installation is a even more so. I am attaching a general brake control help article and a particular article for Volkswagen installs to help you. You will need to look behind you brake pedal for the wires and will need to use a circuit tester like Item # PTW2993 to find the "hot" and the "cold" wires. Connect the wires function to function and you are all set.

If you need a 4-Way Connector, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness, Item # 118675, that is a confirmed fit for your Tiguan. It installs behind the driver and passenger side taillights.

If you install a 4-Way connector or already have a 4-Way Connector, then you will need a 7-Way Connector for the brake controller. I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller, Item # ETBC7. This will include everything you need to get your brake controller installed.

I do not have a video for installation of a brake controller for a Volkswagen Tiguan. However, I am attaching an installation for a 2016 Volvo XC90 which should give you some ideas.
