If the trailer has electric brakes that you want to use or that are required by law then you will need a brake controller to activate the trailer brakes. If your 2015 Chevy Colorado came with a factory 7-Way then the wiring to install a brake controller is located under the dash generally to the left of the steering column and held together with a white tag. The tag lists the functions of the vehicle wires. Brake controller wiring is white for ground, black for 12 volt power, blue for output to the trailer brakes and red for input from the brake switch.
If your truck does not have a trailer connector then to add a 7-Way and brake controller you will start by installing # HM40975-11998. I have linked a video showing an example installation. You would wire the brake controller in the same way as if the truck had a factory 7-Way.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
