7-Way to 5-Way Adapter Needed for Towing a Boat Trailer with a 2013 Honda Pilot

Question:

Hello - I have a 2013 Honda Pilot that Im getting tow ready. The boat trailer Im towing uses a 5-pin connector, the 5th pin controls the surge brakes. Ive already installed the Tekonsha 118265 wiring harness so I have a 7-pin round connector. My question is whether I can just use a 7-pin to 5-pin adapter, or do I need to splice into the backup light wire? And if I have to splice in for the 5th pin how will that work with my current 7-pin round setup?

We do have a few options to use so that you can tow your boat trailer with your 2013 Honda Pilot.

Using an adapter like the Optronics # A75TB is a viable option that utilizes that 5th pin for the reverse light function. This will activate the reverse lockout solenoid on your surge brake actuator if you have one.

The better option would be to use the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47570. This plugs right into the7-Way on your T-One # 118265 and gives you a 7-Way plus a 5-Way/4-Way connector. You can potentially leave this plugged in all the time so that you don't have to remember where you put the adapter.

I have linked some videos for you to check out as well.
