Can the Curt Dual Receiver # D-192 be Used to Flat Tow a Chevy Colorado with 5K Loaded Weight

Question:

I have a Class A motorhome with a 10,000 pound hitch. I am wanting to get a dual hitch so that I can tow my Colorado truck and put a bicycle rack on the motorhome hitch receiver. My concern is that the Colorado weighs about 4,000 pounds and I will be hauling a few items in the bed of the truck. The weight of everything should be less than 5,000 pounds. Will your dual hitch adapter be sufficient for my needs?

I do have a possible solution for you, but unfortunately none of our dual hitch receivers, like the Curt # D-192, are rated for more than 4,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight (GTW).

Roadmaster offers their version of dual hitch receivers that are designed for flat towing only. The part # RM-077-2 has receivers which offer a 2-1/4" rise/drop, has a 10,000 lb GTW and a 400 lb Tongue Weight (TW) rating.

If you check out the linked helpful article on tow bars you can see that you need the arms of your tow bar to be within 3" of the center of the motorhome receiver for safe towing. As long as you still get this when using the Roadmaster adapter you are set to go!
