Wiring Harness for Trailer that Pulls 4.5 Amps for Running Lights & 4 Amps Per Turn Signal/Brake
Question:
I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna CE and I am looking to add wiring for a trailer. I see the Curt and Tekonsha have current ratings listed. I am wondering what amount of current can be delivered by this unit. I have measured my pop-up trailer and it draws 4.5A on the running lights and 4A on each side for brake/turn.

Even though Hopkins does not publish the ratings of the converter for wiring harness # HM11143485 that fits your 2006 Toyota Sienna it is comparable to the Curt and Tekonsha wiring harnesses in that regard.
Your trailer is drawing a lot of power. Normally that would mean it has a lot of lights on it. But being a pop-up I wouldn't think that would be the case in this application. It leads me to believe that something else might be going on such as a short or corroded trailer connector. That can be tested by testing the draw of each light individually using a separate 12 volt battery rather than connecting the trailer to a vehicle.
