Recommendation For Dual Hitch To Tow Travel Trailer and Carry Bike Rack
Question:
I have a 2007 Tacoma with tow package, hitch rating at 6500#. We just bought a 16 foot travel trailer at 2500# dry weight, 180# hitch weight, 3500# max weight. I'm getting a weight distributing hitch installed on the tongue. I'm wondering if it is possible to use a dual hitch extender to also use a kuat hitch bike rack above the trailer tongue?

Based on your information, a dual hitch extender like the Curt Adapter, Item # D-192, will not work for you or with a weight distribution system.
About the only way you can have both a bike rack and a weight distribution system is to look at something like the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with Stacked Receivers, Item # 325-GH-315. With this ball mount, you will be able to tow your trailer with weight distribution and carry a 2 inch hitch mounted bike rack. For example, the Kuat Beta Bike Rack, Item # B202-2, can be mounted in the top receiver on the Gen-Y hitch with everything else being mounted in a lower receiver. The Beta has a maximum weight capacity of 80-lbs and the rack itself weighs 12.6-lbs. The Beta carries up to 2 bikes. I have attached a link to our Kuat available inventory.
If you plan on carrying any alternative framed bikes (women's, children's, etc.) without horizontal top tubes, I recommend purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar, Item # UB01, to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes so that you have an attachment point.
You will need to be extra cautious and keep a close eye on your total loaded and ready to go weight including the bike rack as well as your total tongue weight. Your tongue weight is 10%-15% of your loaded and ready to go weight that also includes any cargo behind your rear axle of your 2007 Toyota Tacoma. I recommend using something like the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale, Item # e99044, to keep tabs on it.
I encourage you to check your 2007 Toyota Tacoma owner's manual for weight capacities, towing instructions, and recommendations.
I have attached links to articles and videos to assist you.
