For your 2017 Ram 2500 with the factory 5th wheel prep package you can directly install a 5th wheel hitch without having to first mount a set of above-bed base rails. You can simply drop in one of the hitches made for the special Ram prep package. This lets you have a clear bed when you need it for cargo use.

For example, if you have a 6-1/2-foot bed you would want to use a sliding hitch like the excellent 20k-rated B&W Companion Slider # BWRVK3670, or if you have a long-bed you would use a fixed type hitch like the 25K fixed-style Companion # BWRVK3600. B&W fabricates what many consider to be the finest USA-made 5th wheels available.
