I have exactly what you will need to convert the 4-way trailer connector you have on your 2001 Nissan Frontier to both a 4 and 7-way trailer connector. For this, you are going to want to use the Universal Installation Kit part # ETBC7 which comes with everything you need to install the 4/7-way trailer connector in addition to containing everything else you would need to install a brake controller should you choose to do so.
If you need a brake controller then I recommend taking a look at the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 which is cost effective, easy to use, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. This is a proportional controller meaning it will apply the brakes to the trailer in the same intensity that is applied to the vehicle.
I have attached a review video of the 7-way for you as well.
