Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2003 Ford Ranger
Question:
I have a 2003 ford ranger that I would like to put a break contoler on. I won’t be using it often, and won’t be hauling much of a load with it, however I would like to have the option. I’m capable of adding wires and such. The last time I installed one was years ago when you had to run a control rod to the break pedal. It looks like things have changed. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Does your 2003 Ford Ranger already have a 7-Way trailer connector? If not then to install a brake controller you will need to also install # ETBC7. If you do already have a 7-Way connector you will just need # 5506.
For a brake controller I recommend the Brake EVN # TK63VR. This is a "nothing fancy" proportional brake controller that will be great for your application. Proportional controllers like this will apply the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking.
I have included some links that will help with the installation. Not all of it will apply to your application so just follow the parts that do.
