Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring on a 2002 Nissan Maxima

Hello, I purchased the older model of the 119175KIT back in 2007 - I believe the model number was 118175KIT. The device has been great until just recently. Without the trailer connected, I turn on my left turn signal and the brake light and rear left indicator light blink alternately. If the tail lights are on and I turn the left indicator on, the reverse lights blink along with the brake light. I disconnected the wiring adapter from my car and now everything works perfectly. Is this an indication that the wiring adapter device has failed and requires replacing? Thanks

Most likely there was a short at some point and the # 118175KIT was damaged and now it is behaving in the strange way that you described.

Before you replace it with a # 119178KIT I would recommend that you go over all of the connections to make sure that the problem is not just wires shorting out somewhere.

If the wiring looks good I would recommend you purchase a Trailer Wiring Kit # 119178KIT and replace the unit that is currently in your vehicle.
